Ingredients

  • 1 large ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves (packed, stems removed)
  • 1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt (or dairy-free yogurt for vegan)
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled
  • 1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2-3 tablespoons water, as needed (for desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. 1

Add the avocado flesh, cilantro leaves, Greek yogurt, olive oil, lime juice, garlic, honey, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the Thermomix bowl.

  2. 2

Secure the lid and blend for 20 seconds / speed 6. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula.

  3. 3

Add 2 tablespoons of water. Blend again for 10 seconds / speed 7, until smooth and creamy.

  4. 4

Check consistency. If you prefer a thinner dressing, add 1 more tablespoon of water and blend for an additional 5 seconds / speed 6.

  5. 5

Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt, pepper, or lime juice as desired.

  6. 6

Transfer the dressing to a jar or airtight container. Chill for at least 15 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.

  7. 7

Serve over salads, grain bowls, tacos, or as a dip for veggies.

Tips & Variations

Pro Tips

  • Use ripe avocados for the creamiest texture and best flavor.
  • For extra tanginess, add a splash more lime juice or a teaspoon of white wine vinegar.
  • If you’re sensitive to garlic, start with half a clove and adjust to taste.
  • Chill the dressing before serving for a thicker, more cohesive texture.
  • This dressing thickens as it chills—thin it with a little water if needed before serving.

Storage

  • Refrigerator: Up to 1-2 weeks in airtight container
  • Freezer: Up to 3 months (thaw overnight in fridge)
  • Best Practice: Store in glass jars for longer freshness

Recipe Variations

  • Spicy Variation: Add 1/2 jalapeño (seeded) or a pinch of cayenne for heat.
  • Vegan Version: Use coconut yogurt or another non-dairy yogurt and agave syrup instead of honey.
  • Extra Creamy: Add 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or sour cream for a richer, silkier finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this dressing ahead of time?

Yes! Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Stir before serving.

Will the avocado dressing turn brown?

The lime juice helps slow browning, but for best color and flavor, consume within 2-3 days. Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to minimize air exposure.

Can I freeze this sauce?

Freezing is not recommended as the texture may change. For tips, see our guide How to Freeze Sauces the Right Way.

Is this dressing suitable for vegans?

Absolutely! Use a plant-based yogurt and agave syrup for a vegan-friendly version.
