  • 80g (1/3 cup) mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled

  4. 4

  7. 7

Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld before serving.

Tips & Variations

Pro Tips

  • Start with 2 chipotle peppers for medium heat; add a third for extra spice.
  • Soak the chipotles in warm water for 5 minutes if they seem very firm before blending.
  • For a lighter sauce, substitute Greek yogurt for some or all of the sour cream.
  • Letting the sauce chill for at least 30 minutes deepens the flavor.
  • This sauce thickens in the fridge—stir in a splash of milk or water before serving if desired.

Storage

  • Refrigerator: Up to 1-2 weeks in airtight container
  • Freezer: Up to 3 months (thaw overnight in fridge)
  • Best Practice: Store in glass jars for longer freshness

Recipe Variations

  • Vegan: Use vegan mayo and unsweetened coconut yogurt instead of sour cream.
  • Extra Smoky: Add a few drops of liquid smoke or increase smoked paprika.
  • Herby: Blend in a handful of fresh cilantro or parsley for a bright, herbal kick.
